Photo AnalysisThis photo out of the whole of the slice set of photographs really stood out to me and made me want to try and recreate some of jones work myself. Something which really stood out to me in this photo was the fact that the artist has not tried to hide the light source and you can see a glare right in the centre of the photo. This in some way makes my eyes travel all around the edge of the photo and then look closely at the centre last. Also I liked the way that all the photo is there but has just been moved around into different places. I felt that I wanted to do something like this so that none of the photo is actually missing just in a different place on the paper.

I was scrolling through Instagram when I saw a post by Tim Tadder which linked to my theme of Concealment. When I saw this I knew that I needed to screenshot, this is because i knew that i could use this idea in my own work on concealment. The first idea that sprung to my head from this is that I could use different objects to distract the lookers eye for the model of the photo. It would do this because the object would be disrupting the subject so that you can not fully see them.

One thing that stands out to me in this photo is that the actual image of the women is in black and white and then the sewing done on top has been done using coloured thread which makes it pop out, and look more 3D rather than it looking like a flat image on a screen. The only two facial features that i can see poking through is the lips and some part of the right eye. This makes the subject concealed from the lookers making them have to think about what is behind the floral stitches. Also the fact that there is not background and the only thing in the picture is the subject makes it stand out even more because your eyes do not really drift to any other parts of the photo because there is not actually anything else to look at.

“The collages I make express the duality in the human being, who we want to be versus who we really are and what part of us we show to others.” Pablo Thecuadro
I chose this photo because I like the way that the focus has been manipulated so that there are many different parts if the photo which have been cut out and moved around. Also right in the middle of the face there is a part where you can see a different photo of the model which has been placed into this photo. And then in the top left hand corner there is that part which is missing from the middle of the subjects face. I have screen grabbed the parts I am talking about below.

There are many things that I find interesting about this photo. One part of this that really stands out to me is the fact that there is something which looks like smudge marks in the photo. These could have been made using finger prints and also there is a sort of dusty effect over the image which makes it look worn out. Also the blur between the two faces really make them join together as one and the face on the left hand side sort of overlaps the face on the right making them look like they are just one face conjoined together.

I thought that I could do an example with a silhouette from online before I did the photoshoot with the actual subject. This is because I wanted to see if this would actually work and look good, then i can refine and develop my work.
PhotoPedagogy Also this in some way links to threshold concept number 5 because even though the subject is not in the place it has been shaped with technology to make it look like they are there which is quite abstract and may make you second look the photo. |
